Safe from Tsunami in Mililani

It all started with:
The 8.9 magnitude earthquake that rattled Japan today triggered a tsunami that sped across the Pacific Ocean at a velocity that matched that of a commercial jetliner.
Tsunami warning sirens went off from Hawaii to Alaska and Oregon. Evacuations jammed roads and prompted fistfights at gas stations, and the federal government prepared to deploy emergency relief teams.  The first siren sounded at 9:30 and we went to my friend KJ's house which is inland in Mililani.  We watched the news until 2:30 when the tsunami was supposed to happen but nothing really happened to our island.  Students were told to go up to the temple because it is higher ground.  What an adventure!  It would have been kind of cool to be here when a tsunami struck.  I feel bad for the people in Japan.  One of my friends from Japan has family who were affected by the earthquake.  I'm currently taking an online natural disasters class too so it's pretty cool timing.  It was so funny to watch people who were watching for the tsunami from the beach on the news.  So silly!  I'm alive and well family and friends!  Thanks for caring about me ;)

I couldn't wait to hear your voice. I can't believe that our whole world can turn into a war zone in a few hours time. I hope and pray the People affected by this disaster will be blessed. Tough day for them. I love you Katie.
