The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau is the most prestigious big wave surfing event in the world. The event is held every winter, although the actual tournament occurs rarely. In order for the Quicksilver Eddie Aikau Invitational to go forward, there must be 20+ foot waves at Waimea Bay, where Aikau himself used to surf. Eddie is a famous surfer who died trying to save someone in the ocean. Me and some friends camped out on the beach in preparation for it. We were able to see the surfers catch some pretty huge waves at Waimea bay but apparently they weren't big enough so the competition didn't actually take place. Elder Bednar also came and spoke at Devotional. He looked good in his fresh lei and he said he almost had President Wheelright choose another speaker because he wanted to go to the surfing competition, but it got canceled. We made some pretty good memories anyways though! I love my friends here. They are the best. I'm also loving my Spanish class. Here are some random pics from the event and the people I went with. This is for you Eddie~!
Awesome...camping on the beach... I love it. We went camping on the beach one weekend. There is one more check off your bucket list (surf competition) woohoo. Elder Bednar came when I was there also...sweet. Lets talk soon. I want to hear more!

Those waves are magnificent. Don't go out there!! Just soak it up on the beach. I love this heavenly place. Have fun. Love you.
Hang in there Katie. This too shall pass.
