God doesn't make a "no good" ANYTHING

An interesting analogy came to my mind concerning a simple thing that happened at the retirement home where I am working. Every weekend, I help a man get up and ready for the day. He served in World War II, has many children, a strong build, and appears to be a hard worker. Most importantly, he is an independent/stubborn old man. It is really difficult for him to accept the fact that he needs to rely on me, an 18 year old girl, to help him get dressed in the morning. Every time I help him get out of bed thus far he has made a comment about how he is "a waste of skin" or "not good for anything". I always follow it up with positive remarks about how much he has accomplished in his life and how it is my job to help him. I tell him I enjoy helping people because it helps me become a better person. Still, he feels that he has nothing to contribute to the world because of his helpless state.
At one time or another, people feel the same way this man does every morning when he is struggling to pull himself out of bed. Often I am stubborn like him and fail to realize that I need help every single day. Without Heavenly Father's help we would just be a waste of skin. Fortunately, each of us has a loving Father who is always there for us. He doesn't just help us because it's his job. He does it because he loves us and wants us to be happy. We are not meant to be alone. That is why he gives us wonderful people who understand how we feel. He gives us the miraculous ability to talk to him and he will answer us if we are sincere. He has given us the atonement. Because of that atonement he knows how alone we feel at times. Even though we can't do everything, every person has something to contribute to the world. "God doesn't make a no good anything." (Forever Strong.) With his help, we can do anything we set our minds to! I thought of this little analogy and it helped me realize that I need to be better at letting Heavenly Father help me and strive to do the best I can without being too hard on myself. My teacher showed this video in my anatomy class and I really liked it. The link is below. Enjoy! Compliment someone you love today.
